The Finnish Security Police
Suojelupoliisi (SUPO) is the Finnish security police. As a police unit that specializes in the prevention of security threats of the State, the Security Police participates with other authorities in the protection of parliamentary democracy and the security interests of the society. The Director of the Security Police is Mr. Ilkka Salmi.
The main tasks of the Security Police are - counterespionage - counterterrorism - preventing threats to internal security - preventive security work - protection - participation in fighting international organised crime.
The basic values of the Security Police are legality, reliability and quality.
The headquarters of the Security Police is in Helsinki and the Service operates in the whole country. Approximately 220 people work at the Security Police. The Security Police consists of an operational, preventive and strategic line and a cabinet.
