Welcome to the home page of the ENFSI Expert Working Group Marks!

The Expert Working Group Marks (EWGM) is one of the forensic science working groups of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI). This working group covers examinations in a wide range of disciplines including toolmarks, shoeprints, tire marks, barefeet, lock and key examinations, manufacturing marks and other related topics.

The general aims of the Working Group Marks are to raise the level of expertise of marks examiners and to promote best quality assurance practises in the fields of expertise covered by the working group.

The Working Group Marks publishes a newsletter for the members since November 1995. The main purpose for the Information Bulletin for Shoeprint/Toolmark Examiners (IBSTE) is to deliver information of interest to the mark examiners. It can be information about a special technique, descriptions of interesting cases, etc.

The Working Group Marks also collects a Library of articles covering various types of mark examinations. The articles are being kept at the National Bureau of Investigation, in Finland.

The Working Group Marks maintains the Wanted page which is meant for fellow examiners' questions. Most of the questions deal with identifications of a brand name for the shoeprint found at the crime scene.
